Mission and Background

Mission

UCLA ISAP is also accredited to provide continuing education (CE) credit for the following certified and licensed professionals:

The UCLA Integrated Substance Abuse Programs Continuing Medical Education (UCLA ISAP CME) Program promotes lifelong learning and continuous improvement in patient care among physicians and other healthcare professionals by providing high quality continuing education in evidence-based practices and integrated care for substance use and mental health disorders across a variety of treatment settings and members of the health care team, with the goal of creating better health outcomes and health equity for the patients and communities they serve.

To accomplish this mission, we apply evidence-based adult learning best practices from education and implementation sciences to develop, accredit, and evaluate activities and initiatives designed to improve the skills, strategy, and performance of providers and healthcare teams and the delivery of exemplary patient care. By aligning our activities with the relevant competency frameworks, we support our learners as faculty, healthcare professionals, and respective team members in providing high value, equitable care to patients and communities.

Content

UCLA ISAP CME includes a broad range of primary care, specialty, and subspecialty topics chosen through a comprehensive needs assessment process, which identifies "gaps" between current and best practice. Content is chosen for its relevance to the intended audience's scope of professional practice and is planned to enhance core competencies, promote evidence-based care, and promote health and wellness of the broader community.

Intended Audience

UCLA ISAP CME engages all members of the healthcare team whose educational needs and specific gaps in practice can be addressed by continuing education initiatives and serves international, national, state, and local learners. To the extent possible, the CME Program’s educational activities are developed by and for diverse interprofessional teams with the goal of improving patient outcomes, addressing health equity, and advancing innovation in coordinated care and collaborative practice.

Expected Results

Learners will acquire new knowledge and improve skills and attitudes to increase clinical competence and/or improve performance with the ultimate goal of improving patient care, safety, and health outcomes. Learning initiatives are designed to enhance the knowledge and skills of all participants and to address systemic barriers to quality and performance. The ultimate goal is to effect improvements in systems-based practice, leading to improved provider and collaborative team performance and patient outcomes.
